District Recognizes Student Achievements

Band and chorus standouts, mathletes and National Merit Scholars recognized by the Moorestown Board of Education.

 

The Moorestown Board of Education recognized several students—from elementary school on up—Tuesday for a variety of academic and extracurricular achievements.

High School

Finalist for the 2012 National Achievement Scholarship

  • Olabode J. Adunbarin

Finalists in the 2012 Competition for National Merit Scholarship

  • Leslie Fink, Alexander M. Ing, Emily M. Jarnagin, Thomas P. Kienzle, Zachary J. Morrow, and Kevin P. Zhang

 

William Allen Middle School

Seven students auditioned for the Junior High All-State Chorus and three eighth grade students were accepted:

  • Jaya Mallela - soprano II section leader
  • Colleen Young - soprano II
  • Gwen Wilkie - alto section leader

The following students participated in auditions for the 2012 South Jersey Junior High School Band. Those in bold were accepted into the band:

  • Tommy Burns, 8th grade - trumpet
  • Kathie Jin, 7th grade - flute
  • Jiongnan Liu, 8th grade - flute
  • Maggie Mlynek, 8th grade - clarinet
  • Sameer Parihar, 8th grade - tenor sax
  • Liam Parsons, 8th grade - percussion
  • Michelle Quien, 7th grade - oboe
  • Heather Warren, 8th grade - flute

MATHCOUNTS competitors

  • Eighth grade: Dilan TrivedI, Jessica Fan (placed third overall), Katie Tsai, David Kaye, Bela Delvadia, Anjali Patel

  • Seventh grade: Julia Graham, Kathie Jin, Hanna Lee, Devin Trivedi

     

Upper Elementary School

  • Anjali Akula, fifth grade, won third place in the NJAGC (New Jersey Association for Gifted Children) student Art and Writing Contest for her story and illustration, “Poverty of Resources.”
