Who is the "Writer" who controls this LIVE commentary on the election questions? I thought no comments would be opened until after the election. How nice to be able to continue campaigning for the votes.

MaryB,

Commenting here doesn't open until 6 p.m.—a mere two hours before the polls close. I would hardly call that campaigning.

I agree wholeheartedly. You have broken the law by continuing your false "campaigning" PRIOR to the end of or DURING voting hours!

Coincidentally when the last rush of voters is going out to vote. Should we wear blindfolds while reading patch if we haven't yet voted? You wouldn't want to influence the vote, would you? Who is Writer who controls what comments are displayed. You do have controls in place to keep anyone who has not voted from being able to see the commentary, right? Are we branded with a number that we have to give to prove we already voted before we are allowed to comment/watch?

I don't understand how patch policy is "no comments" until after the election, but someone here is going to be running comments during the election. Not all comments, just the ones "Writer" wants to be seen. I think questioning that is reasonable. If patch is "neutral", why would it violate its own policy?

Good for you - it's important to be well informed as to the benefit of passing the liquor referendum in town.

Don't worry about me though, I voted Yes this morning, so I won't have the opportunity to be swayed one way or another.

Please, give it a rest, will you? I don't think too many people are going to have a revelation based on what is being said here. Lady, you have entirely too much time on your hands.

VOTE No on Both! Is that the answer you want?
Or some wanted to vote for #2 and not #1? But then some liked #1 and No on #2.
ahh, man this is twisted with the two questions. I'm sure will have a meltdown and won't vote furthest questions at all.
Or best just wait until 600pm when the best advice comes from fellow patchers again!

People raising the spectre of liquor license establishments along Main St. in downtown Moorestown if the referendums pass are uninformed. Under state law, no such establishment can be within a certain distance from any school and/or religious building. When you think that spread along Main St. are Moorestown Friends Meeting, Moorestown Friends School, the Greenleaf next to the Community House (now part of MFS), First Baptist Church, OLGC Church, OLGC School, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Hope Community Church, that pretty much precludes anyone selling liquor on Main Street, doesn't it?

Yup....that's just what we need to do....save our "God-like" teachers. Teachers who demand a raise EVERY year when the country is at the closest its ever come to another great depression, demand fully paid health insurance benefits when people all over the country have lost their jobs and with them, THEIR health benefits, teachers who have just about the cushiest job in this town. And saving programs? Do you REALLY believe it's up to GOVERNMENT - whether State, County or Federal, to PROVIDE for EVERY NEED a citizen or town has? Is that how this great country was FORMED? Quite the opposite - if you've ever read a history book. People took care of PEOPLE. Government was just there as "guide" NOT "KING".....certainly NOT to make rules that apply to every other citizen in this country EXCEPT themselves. Nor was any colony EVER founded or created on the principle of "entitlement" and that's exactly what society has now become. A country, a township of people who believe they're "entitled" to EVERYTHING they want and that it should be provided FOR THEM. PREIT isn't going to do a darn thing about improving the Moorestown Mall. Why would they? In this economy, with the worst still to come, you honestly believe an organization is going to invest $32 million dollars in a location less than 10 miles from the worst city in the country? NO ONE uses that mall but no one is going to be able to REVIVE it either and definitely NOT with so-called "fine" restaurants. WHY NO NAMES???

It is rather unfair to allow comments regarding this vote to occur while voting is still ongoing . Traditionally all campaigning ceases on election day to allow voters the ability to vote without fear, intimidation, coercion and the like. The fact that this site still allows this type of bickering to occurs during election hours when they in fact shut down all editorials last night is contradictory. Let the people have their day after the polls have closed.

As if, all of the sudden, any regular Moorestown patch readers will become confused on the issue? This is silly. There are not patch 'writers' shaking down voters on the way into the polls. All through this, there have been some rational, some passionate, and some downright insane comments about this issue, but no one is getting confused because of some 11th hour election coverage.

Rob,
I know that I speak for most of the bloggers here when I say thank you for taking the time to correct some misinterpretations of the liquor questions, and as well,a few comments made to the public by Council and PREIT. It is always important to provide a reliable source of information for the sake of accuracy. I imagine it was appreciated by most people on both sides of the liquor issue.
As to allowing this discussion board to continue on starting at 6 PM, well, the chance of this blog having any impact on the liquor outcome have about the same odds of my winning the lottery. I don't buy tickets.

In full disclosure, I voted Yes on both. I also sent the e-mail below to Rob Scott, Patch editor, earlier today.

Rob, Thanks for posting your Q&A about today's liquor vote on the Patch website (although I wish you had included clarification as to why downtown is legally impossible for booze sales because of the churches and schools along Main St.)...and for allowing the Patch to be a place where residents could vent their feelings on all sides of the debate during the past several weeks. However, I'm afraid many of the posted comments have shed a lot more heat than light on the subject. I am not sure how the petty rants, nasty back-biting, and incoherent childish gibberish can be controlled in this blog-happy culture of ours. I know you said previously that you are not in a position to require that comments include the identity of the writers, but I think that preventing people from hiding behind their anonymity would definitely lift the level of discussion. Perhaps you might also consider limiting individuals to one new posted comment each day; that might save your readership (like myself) from having to wade through the back-and-forth "pissing contests" between a couple of posters that sometime dominate the message board while I search for something really new and meaningful to read. Hopefully, no matter how the public questions are decided, the Patch can return to a place where more civil discourse takes place in the days ahead!

Just for clarification purposes N.J. statute 33:1-76 (Liquor Laws) states: No license shall be issued for the sale of alcoholic beverages within 200 feet of any church or public schoolhouse or private schoolhouse (which includes day care centers). Just thought I'd throw that info out there FYI only.

I have lived in Moorestown all my 55 years. And I am glad too see the town come into the year 2011.It is about time we have good restaurants in the Mall. Now we can collect the taxs on the booze instead of ALL the towns around us.It should have been done years ago.I will not go to a restaurant that I have to bring my own liquor.First off I am not that cheap and second if I go out to diner to relax and have fun I want to be waited on.Not make my own drink. The Mall is boring old and going downhill and needs this shot in the arm.Thank-you everyone who voted yes.

And may you one day awaken from the "dreamworld" you must live in if you just HAVE to have someone to SERVE YOU your daily dose of alcohol. Along with your honestly believing a quality restaurant would waste a NICKEL of their hard to keep pennies these days, on a site like the Moorestown Mall. If YOU had the funds to build a new restaurant, would YOU choose a boring, going downhill location to BUILD it? You just contradicted your own logic. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION....the first rule for a business to succeed. Businesses are NOT in the business of building UP areas...they're in business to make money and the only way they can do that is to locate in already established, VIABLE, locations. They will not go somewhere with HOPES of it becoming VIABLE. Logic - real estate 101!

Dear Situation,
"Grammar non-skills?" And YOU confront me in a public forum? Just to set the record straight, I have served as a senior officer of 5 Fortune 100 companies during my career and I am not yet 60. In addition, I had the courage and stamina to start my own consulting firm and can proudly state now, I employ over 47 full-time workers; 23 part-time workers, and take 20 interns every summer from the local colleges. I am also an Associate Professor at U of Penn, Temple, Drexel (as well as one of their consultants), Rowan and Stockton. I have spoken before various groups larger than 500 members across the entire country during my tenure as a private consultant. My income is such that it provides me with access to money-makers as well as money-lenders and, for that reason alone, I know as a certainty PREIT has a hidden agenda that will appear sometime during 2012. I will watch with "amusement" people like you who were so gullible to be taken in by their "glitz" campaign...definitely NOT the most honest. I ask the indulgence of anyone who's seen this blog because you are correct in admonishing me for being so pugnacious when posting. This is neither the time nor the place but I suffer fools lightly and have worked hard for this town that is now being turned into just another average, ordinary town.

SS with all of those impressive credentials, we are all amazed that you would chose to lower yourself to blog here? oooooooooh, stamina? Is that from viagra? I heard someone recently claimed to have gone to Wharton was blogging and that somehow that was supposed to mean something. maybe you can consult with the town crazy ed and see what he thinks because no one here really cares! could be the start of a new consulting firm for ya! Remember tho, it will take more than courage and stamina this time. Seek some meds.

I have lived in princeton and mt.laurel both with liquor i have yet to see a skid row in either. Alcohol is a problem for alcoholics and they are everywhere...rich and poor, they will got to a liquor store to get there fix. they dont need to go to your 1 mile square town to drink. I can have a glass of wine in new york, paris and rome...now your town will be on the same level..........lol

This liquor question has been one of the funniest diatribes I have ever participated in. S.S. might actually be an intelligent person I just can't tell with all of his pent up rage. If he does teach I would hope he displays stronger reasoning skills in class discussions. I bet he is a nice person though, just kinda enraged. Sorry my business of media has gotten to him. I said this before and will say it again. The town was named after a Tavern owner. The lay of the land was discussed over ales at a bar stool. A town named after a Tavern owner should not be dry. It creates an imbalance of integrity. Not about the mall, taxes or some weird agenda, just about staying true to the history. In all my years in Moorestown and Burlington County I always found it completely ridiculous that Thomas Moore's Tavern was not rebuilt and operational. When the gas station that sat on the site was closed, I wanted to rebuild it with some friends. Too difficult an environment we found out. They built a pre-fab bank on the site. ---FAIL. Tip of the cap to Moorestown voters for voting Yes.
