Moorestown Police Offer Online Incident Reporting
The police department launched the system Wednesday, which allows residents to report everything from anonymous tips to identity theft using their computer.
The Moorestown Police Department just made it a lot easier to report a crime.
On Wednesday, the department launched an online citizen reporting system for residents to report non-emergency incidents, including minor thefts, lost property, harassing phone calls and anonymous tips.
“We’re still getting the same number of reports we always get. We’re just trying to make it easier for people (to report incidents),” said Lt. Amy Parker.
Parker pointed out the system will allow the department to be more efficient with the use of its manpower. Rather than sending an officer out to speak with a homeowner about a smashed mailbox, for example, the resident can report the information online.
The system can be accessed via the police department page on the township website (select “On-Line Citizen Reporting”). The following incidents can be reported online:
- Criminal mischief/damage less than $500
- Theft (less than $200)
- Lost property
- Annoying phone calls
- Identity theft
- Delayed crash reports
- Vacation checks
- Anonymous tips
“It’s a pretty easy system to use,” said Parker, who explained the department got the ball rolling when it began offering accident reports online.
Still, Moorestown is one of very few communities in the area to implement this system, she said. “Hopefully it helps (the residents). It helps us.”
A touchscreen kiosk will also be installed in the police lobby for citizens to report incidents.
