Moorestown Youth Baseball Poker Tourney Raises $10,000

The money will go toward improvements at the baseball facilities in town.

Adam Gerber, baseball coach and unofficial emcee of sponsored by Moorestown Youth Baseball, said last week he didn't want to guess how much the group would net from the fundraiser because it was their first try at it.

Turns out he didn't have to be modest. The group exceeded expectations, raising approximately $10,000 from the event, the "largest fundraising score in (Moorestown Youth Baseball) history," according to Gerber. "For the first one, and the time we had to plan it and everything, it's amazing."

That number hasn't been finalized yet, and Gerber called it "very conservative."

He said there were 62 players in the tournament, and a total of about 100 people attended altogether, including former Eagle and current Rams All-Pro safety Quintin Mikell, who Gerber said he knows through a mutual friend.

Mikell, who lives near Moorestown, played in the tournament, bringing along a signed jersey that was auctioned off.

"He's a really good guy," Gerber said.

The money raised from the tournament will be used to pay for improvements and maintenance at the baseball facilities around town.

The event was such a success the group has already booked the again next year to hold another tournament.

Gerber thanked everyone who attended and made the night a success.
