New Italian Restaurant On Its Way to Moorestown

Tony Carollo is expanding and improving one of Main Street's vacant storefronts, with plans to open the pizzeria this summer.

Tony Carollo has big plans for the vacant Burleigh's Paint & Paper shop on East Main Street.

Carollo, who owns Carollo's Family Restaurant on Delsea Drive in Franklinville, plans to open a similar establishment in Moorestown. The restaurateur said he plans to overhaul the building, installing a canopy out front and expanding the rear to make room for an outdoor seating/courtyard area, among other improvements.

Tom Ford, the township's director of community development, said Carollo plans to expand the 997-square-foot space by about 250 more feet, all of it in the back of the building.

Carollo was granted a parking variance by the planning board last week, according to Councilman Chris Chiacchio, who said the business owner is investing roughly a half million dollars into restoring the building.

"It's going to be a really good addition to that end of Main Street," Chiacchio said.

Carollo said the Moorestown restaurant will be similar to the one in Franklinville, with dine-in and carry-out, brick oven pizza and plenty of other Italian dishes. He's shooting for a summertime opening.

"When it's done, it's going to be one of the best-looking restaurants on Main Street," said Carollo. "It's going to be almost a new building."
