I have fond memories of my mom and her sisters and sisters-in-law gushing over their finds at neighborhood Tupperware parties back in the early seventies. They’d get together and dish their purchases as they sipped coffee and snacked on cakes and cookies from Entenmann’s.
Little did I know that some forty years later, my hubby Eric and I would be hosting a Tupperware party. However, I don’t think that our Tupperware Lady—Aunt Cassie Rolle—is anything like the ladies who hawked Tupperware products to my mom and her family.
You see, our Tupperware lady is a drag queen.
Yep. You read that correctly. In fact, Tupperware parties hosted by drag queens are all the rage across the nation. They provide a unique spin on a true American classic, and offer lots of laughs (sometimes bawdy) in the process.
Our Tupperware party is the latest event sponsored by Night Out Collingswood, an effort aimed at offering events and activities for the GLBTQ community and its allies. Night Out Collingswood launched last fall with a fun-filled evening of Out Quizzo, an event that raised much-needed funds for PFLAG Collingswood.
Consider this your invitation to join us for this very special event. The party is scheduled for Friday, January 11, 2013 at 7 p.m. The location is 300 Highland Avenue in Collingswood. We’ll be providing appetizers, desserts, wine, soda, coffee, and tea.
Space is limited, so if you’re interested in attending, contact me ASAP at email@example.com. I hope you’ll consider joining us.
And stay tuned for an announcement early next week on another event from Night Out Collingswood — this time, an ongoing monthly social outing.
