Kids have lots of free time to fill during the summer, but you can only take so much outdoor activity before everyone’s begging for a little relief in the air conditioning. You probably already know the Moorestown Library is the place to go to for all kinds of cool, free stuff: books, movies, CDs, ebooks, magazines, and so much more. There’s just one catch: When you borrow something from the library, eventually, we ask you to give it back.    But just for today, we’re changing the rules—slightly. Today is Comic Book Giveaway Day, which means all day long, teens entering grades 7-12 are welcome to come to the library and pick out a comic book to keep. Summer at the Moorestown Library is in full swing with children of all ages enjoying the summer reading programs. Which made us wonder: Why should the kids have all the fun? So for our second year we are offering Adult Summer Reading—with prizes!Just stop by the Reference Desk to sign up and then drop off a “review” entry form with the book title and your name and contact information for each book you read. Yesterday, Moorestonians enjoyed a fantastic Fourth of July Parade celebrating the Liberty Bell, our freedom, and the grand ol’ USA. The fireworks may be over for now, but the Moorestown Library is continuing the celebration with a special exhibit in our lobby display cases you won’t want to miss.Now through July 14, stop by the library to check out Lego creations celebrating all things patriotic, made by Moorestown children and their families. It’s no secret the Moorestown Library has Lego fever, but with the 4th of July right around the corner, it seems we’ve got Liberty fever too. With all this excitement in the air, it seems it’s the perfect time for a very special Lego event at the library: “Give Me Liberty and Give Me Legos!” At 7 p.m. tonight, children of all ages, along with their parents, are invited to use the library’s enormous collection of Legos to build a creation with a patriotic theme—the Liberty Bell, an American flag, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty, or anything that says, “Hooray for the USA!” All …
The Moorestown Library hosted a cookout for 150 children and adults on Friday, June 22. Jeremiah Appleton, husband of children’s librarian Jen Dunne, brought his own grill to the party, and along with his father Jay, grilled up 80 hamburgers and 100 hot dogs for the hungry crowd. Nothing says summer like a good old-fashioned cookout, so on Friday, June 22, the Moorestown Library is throwing our first-ever Library Cookout to celebrate the start of our “Dream Big: READ” Summer Reading Program.Children ages 3 and up are invited to bring their families for an evening full of hot dogs, hamburgers and campout surprises with storyteller Don Dougherty. Father’s Day is right around the corner, and everyone knows dads are notoriously hard to shop for. Fortunately, with a little help from the Moorestown Library, you can give dad a thoughtful Father’s Day memento without doing any shopping at all.This Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, the Children’s Room is hosting a “Make Your Own Father’s Day Card” event for children of all ages. When it comes to writing, Moorestown’s got talent!Is there an author in your neighborhood? The odds are good if you live in the Moorestown area, where talented writers seem to be flourishing. In response to a lot of enthusiasm from library users for creative writing workshops, we’ve invited several authors from around the neighborhood to give a presentation to interested writers.  The authors joining us include novelists, journalists and nonfiction writers. Summer is fast approaching, and in just a few short weeks, the school year will officially end and Moorestown kids of all ages will have lots more free time to fill. Everyone knows the Moorestown Library is a great summer destination for young kids, with story times, movies, game days and special events like Mad Science. As summer quickly approaches, many Moorestown teenagers, along with their anxious parents, are beginning to wonder what they’ll do this summer. With community service hour requirements looming over many young heads, summer is a great time for teens to consider volunteering at the Moorestown Library.Each summer, the Moorestown Library seeks responsible, reliable teens who like working with children to serve as volunteer listeners in our Children’s Summer Reading Program. Mother’s Day is this weekend, and families all over Moorestown are facing that last-minute crunch, looking to give Mom or Grandmom something that’s heartfelt and budget-friendly. “Motivating Minds and Improving Potential—Raising Even More Successful Kids” will be the topic of discussion at a special workshop from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Moorestown Library. A few weeks ago, we asked you what you love about libraries. We received many great responses, but one response gave us our inspiration for next week’s National Library Week celebration:  “I’ve found great cookbooks I didn’t know existed!” After seeing that comment, circulation staff member Elite Law suggested we hold a cooking contest using all those great cookbooks. It should be obvious to anyone who walks through our doors that the staff of the Moorestown Library love their jobs. For reasons as varied as the people who work here, we love libraries.
