We are honored to be displaying S.T.E.M.’s beautiful open space banners, which have transformed our library into an inspiring gallery of original art.Since 1991, Save the Environment of Moorestown (S.T.E.M.) has acknowledged every piece of open space it has preserved by commissioning a banner to commemorate it. Each banner is created by a local artist or group of artists and each is a unique design. There is no question that downloadable audiobooks and e-books are transforming the way people read, and the Moorestown Library has stayed abreast of these emerging technologies. We should probably start at the beginning and define the difference between a downloadable audiobook and an e-book. While they are both electronic, the audiobook is downloaded to your PC, smartphone, iPad or iPhone. On Saturday, Sept. 10, children in grades K+ are invited to bring their families to the Moorestown Library to meet Mystic, an adorable German shepherd puppy who is training to become a Seeing Eye dog.  Children and their parents will learn how Mystic and other dogs like her learn to assist people with visual impairments.  Mystic is affiliated with The Seeing Eye, Inc. of Morristown, the oldest guide dog school in the world.  The Seeing Eye breeds and trains dogs to become Seeing Eye dogs and teaches people who are blind or visually impaired to work with their guide dogs. You know the library offers cool stuff, but who’s paying for it? If you’ve been to the Moorestown Library recently, you’ve probably noticed that it is abuzz with activity for patrons of all ages. Children are pouring in to report to teenage volunteers about the books they’ve read in hopes of earning a Borders gift card. Next week, the staff of the Moorestown Library will join many other community organizations in taking part in Moorestown’s Fourth of July Parade. This year’s theme, 1776, has inspired us to look back at the history of America’s libraries as a cornerstone for intellectual freedom, free speech, and an educated citizenry. In that spirit, our float will depict Thomas Jefferson’s historic donation to the Library of Congress, complete with Library Director Joe Galbraith in full Jeffersonian attire!
