Lourdes Health System Names Nursing Award Winners

Lourdes Health System recently named intensive care nurse Aniqa Munir, RN, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County; and Med/Surg nurse Mary McGinty, RN, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, as its DAISY Nursing Award winners for the second quarter of 2013.

The award is presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives. It is part of the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Munir, of Willingboro, was honored for her compassion and professionalism. An example of one of her nominations stated, “The doctor prescribed a regimen for my dad and Aniqa carried it out with professionalism and total care and compassion. He is still in the woods, but Lord willing he will survive. In my heart, Aniqa’s care and professional manner played the biggest role in his turn-around.”

McGinty, of Sewell, was honored for patient-centered care and her ability to comfort patients and their family members. One nomination stated, “My beloved uncle was admitted to the hospital. I live an hour away and have small boys at home. Mary was so kind and helpful. She took the time to talk with me on the phone and in-person. Mary should be rewarded for her dedication to the patients and the hospital.”

The DAISY award is presented to a nurse from each of the Lourdes hospitals every quarter.

The DAISY Award was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in honor of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received inspired the family to thank nurses nationwide for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.
