March Madness at Mary E. Robert's Elementary

It was March Madness at Mary E. Roberts elementary!  The month started off with a blast on Science Day, an annual event organized by Robert’s faculty and Home and School. Parent volunteers delivered fun and engaging topics ranging from astronomy to dentistry and included time for students to actively participate in experiments and create a bit of science of their own.

Mid-month welcomed the spring book fair and what a fiesta it was!! Organized by Home and School, the event started off quite grandly as children were encouraged to invite a special “grand-person” to commemorate the event, where sweet treats and stories were shared.  All week long students visited the brightly and beautifully decorated media center for a fiesta-themed celebration of reading.  The event culminated in Literacy Night, where students and their parents met faculty adorned in ponchos and sombreros reading aloud from books, leading groups in the Cha-cha Slide, and creating a lively atmosphere complete with contests, prizes, and authentic Mexican fare.

March ended on a beautiful note at Roberts as the Art Goes to School Committee, along with music teacher Laura Dishong, joined forces with parent volunteers to innovatively pair art and music. Students were encouraged to express and appreciate the beauty and complexity of various works through selected music and interpretive dance.
