Perry and Sherri Gold of Moorestown, NJ, and Marc Rosenthal of Haddonfield, NJ, managing partners of the inaugural Sports & Education Expo (www.sportseducationexpo.com), at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, are pleased to announce that internationally acclaimed best-selling novelist, sports radio broadcaster and sportswriter Mitch Albom, will host a Sports Talk Roundtable Discussion Saturday morning, December 14, from 9:30-10:30 AM featuring Sports Icons: Vince Papale, Eagles legend and subject of the movie Invincible,  Jay Johnstone, former major league baseball player and radio color commentator for the Phillies and Yankees, Rick Barry, Hall of Fame forward and the only basketball player to ever lead the NCAA, NBA and ABA in scoring, and Angelo Cataldi, WIP Morning Show sports radio broadcaster in Philadelphia.

Immediately following, between 10:30 and 11:00 AM, Albom will discuss his newest book, The First Phone Call From Heaven and autograph copies. The first 500 attendees to arrive and register for the Sports & Education Expo at the 12th and Arch Street entrance of the Pennsylvania Convention Center that morning will receive free, signed commemorative copies of Albom’s new novel. Two weeks before Christmas, the book will also be available for purchase and can be signed at the Expo, which opens at 9 that morning.

One entrance ticket to the Expo covers participation the entire weekend, from 9 AM to 6 PM Saturday and from 10 AM to 5 PM Sunday for sports teams, organizations, parents and children ages 5 to 18. The Expo is geared for kids thinking about trying sports, those looking to play at a more competitive level, as well as high-schoolers who want to play in college. Tickets are FREE for ages 12 and under, only $10 for students, 13 and up, and $20 for adults, encompassing demos, clinics, workshops on sports injury prevention, bullying, sports psychology, positive parenting and more, plus a college planning fair, entertainment, autographs, Olympic athlete appearances, and interactive sports activities, from casting a fishing line (for adults and kids) to taking a turn at trying out hockey, lacrosse, golf, soccer, baseball, football and more from all the Philadelphia Pro sports teams and many other renowned partners, speakers and exhibitors, local and national sports organizations, including Special Olympics.  The organizers anticipate upwards of 10,000 attendees, with hundreds of exhibitors for the weekend.

A separate, professional development day is being held Friday, December 13 for coaches, athletic directors, athletic trainers and guidance counselors. This first, annual Philadelphia event (to also expand to other cities) is the first to bridge the gap between the role that sports, education and health plays with our younger generation. It is also the first Expo of its type to represent multiple sports and be open to the general public and professionals.
