Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice Names James M. D’Onofrio Vice President of Strategic Business Initiatives

James M. D’Onofrio Jr. has been named Vice President of Strategic Business Initiatives for Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice, a not-for-profit organization based in Marlton.

Under the direction of Samaritan President/ CEO, Mary Ann Boccolini, D’Onofrio will plan and execute strategic tactics, new business development projects and educational initiatives to solidify new market-based relationships and further the organization’s mission.

 “Jim is an accomplished professional with a unique perspective who brings a wealth of healthcare experience to Samaritan,” said Boccolini. “He’ll focus on delivering the message of Samaritan’s expertise in the fields of palliative medicine, end-of-life care and geriatric care management to healthcare providers and professionals. Our proven programs will help them improve delivery of patient care in these critical areas.”  

D’Onofrio has held executive and consultant roles in the private and public sectors, on a local, regional and national level spanning the continuum of ambulatory healthcare. He played an integral role in ambulatory outgrowth for Jeanes Health System and assisted Virtua in the start-up and turnaround of over 25 healthcare ventures contributing to the public offering of MedQuist. 

Most recently, D’Onofrio served as Business Strategist/COO with Sovereign Medical Group. He worked with Medaphis Corporation, NovaCare Rehabilitation, Spectrum Emergency Care, Inc. and Med Diversified, Inc. in the development and direction of large-scale management service organizations to support consolidation initiatives involving medical billing entities, physical rehabilitation, emergency physicians, home health and retail/specialty pharmacy.

D’Onofrio has led organizations’ initiatives for accelerated growth and helped clients navigate regulatory change. Partnering with John M. Tedeschi, MD, he spearheaded the formation of Continuum Health Alliance supporting the expansion of Advocare LLC. 

D’Onofrio said, “I look forward to supporting Samaritan’s position as the regional leader in Palliative Medicine – one of the fastest growing US medical sub-specialties – and as the largest, most experienced hospice to serve southern New Jersey.  In 2013, both the Lourdes Health System and Virtua chose Samaritan as their preferred palliative medicine providers and Samaritan also launched New Jersey’s first Hospice/Palliative Care Fellowship in collaboration with The Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine.”D’Onofrio received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s University, and completed the Dale Carnegie Sales and Leadership Training Program.
