Change for Fullerton

Students in the district's three elementary schools collected change for Project Zelley.

It’s incredible what a little change can do.

In one week, students in the district’s three elementary schools–Baker, Roberts and South Valley–collected $1,894.96 during the Change for the Park fundraiser. That money was donated to the Friends of Fullerton Zelley Park Project.

Friends of Fullerton volunteers counted the money last Friday at TD Bank. Principal Leisa Karanjia and students at South Valley presented a check for the total amount to the organization.

Because of their fundraising efforts, each class in the elementary schools will receive a picket to decorate. The pickets will be placed around the park.

In addition, TD Bank donated $1,000 to the fund. Friends of Fullerton are collecting money to rebuild the playground at the park. To date they have collected $80,000. More than $30,000 was raised during the March Madness Cocktail Challenge, in which residents hosted cocktail and other parties to raise funds for the project. The winner of the cocktail challenge will receive dinner for two in Philadelphia.

Donations have been coming in from all over Moorestown, said Beth Hughes, Friends of Fullerton fundraising committee chair.

“Everybody has stepped up,” she said. “The support and participation is overwhelming.”

Other donations include: will be providing hamburgers during one of the build days; BF Molz will be supplying paper products; Brennan Transportation is providing a tractor trailer to store equipment and monetary donations from various businesses throughout the township.

The will be held from April 27 to May 1. More than 750 volunteers will be needed to build the playground.
