As a clipper system enters the northeastern United States early this week, South Jersey is under a severe weather advisory in anticipation of rapidly dropping temperatures.

From 6 p.m. December 30 until 6 a.m. on New Year's Eve, temperatures across the region are expected to fall into the low 20's, with five-to-ten-mile-per-hour winds.

Later in the week, the region has a chance of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.

County governments are advising residents to check in on those neighbors who are elderly, handicapped, or living along tonight to make certain that they are in heated environments.

“It is important that most vulnerable among us are not left without heat or electricity,” said Camden County Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez in a prepared statement.

In the event of a power outage, residents are asked to contact their local utilities.
