Hometown Hero: Chris Konzelmann

Konzelmann has been a volunteer firefighter in Moorestown since 2010.

Article written and submitted by Bradley J. Kenney, Commissioner – Moorestown Fire District #1

Chris Konzelmann moved to Moorestown in 2005 with his wife, Aileen, and has two children, Chase and Alexa. He is an attorney and partner at the Philadelphia based law firm of White and Williams, LLP.

Chris first decided to join the fire department after seeing a recruitment banner hanging in the front of Station 311 on Main Street. Chris believed that joining the fire department would be a good way to get more involved in the community and to help others.

He called the number on the banner and spoke to one of the staff working in the office. In just a matter of weeks Chris started classes at the fire academy and graduated at the top of his class in August of 2006.

Since his graduation from the fire academy, Chris was appointed Lieutenant of Station 312 in 2010 and promoted to Captain in 2011.

“Assisting Moorestown residents when they call for help is time consuming but very rewarding," Konzelmann said. "The town has well trained firefighters who dedicate substantial time to help others in their time of need.”

Chris went on to recognize that balancing family, work, and fire department responsibilities can be challenging at times. Sometimes he needs to leave a hot meal on the table or get up in the middle of the night to help others. Chris is thankful for the help of his supportive wife.

When asked, “What is the most rewarding thing about being a firefighter?," Konzelmann responded, “Moorestown residents, many not even realizing that we are a volunteer organization, truly appreciate the service we provide to the community. The greatest reward is a job well done by the responding crew and a heartfelt thank you from the people that we help.”

Chris is truly a great asset to the fire department and we hope there are more people like Chris who are willing to devote some of their time and energy to help the residents of Moorestown.

If you or someone you know has any interest in becoming a volunteer firefighter, please contact Chris Chesner, District Administrator, at 856-234-4193. Ask Chris or any of the fire district staff about scheduling a tour of the fire station or to observe a Thursday night drill.
