Photos: Town Hall Almost Halfway Complete

The project manager says the building is about 40 percent finished and right on schedule for a spring 2014 completion.

It might not look like much yet—not from the outside anyway—but construction on the new town hall is about 40 percent complete, according to project manager Michael Schaefer.

Schaefer, with Greyhawk, provided Patch with a room-by-room tour of the municipal complex recently, highlighting many of its more notable features:

  • The front entrance to the library will open onto a large vestibule—bathed in natural light from above—ringed with comfortable seating for patrons.

  • Several columns in the children’s department will be encased inside real trees, and an artist will be brought in to paint a forest canopy on the ceiling.

  • The entire library will be heated with a hydronic underfloor heating system—basically, hot water running through pipes beneath the library floor will be used to warm the building in an energy-efficient manner.

  • Speaking of hot water, instead of running a hot water heater all day, the building’s H20 will also be warmed via a solar system on the roof.

  • A rainwater capture system will be installed outside the building, using a grant administered by Rutgers University, to supplement the complex’s sprinkler system.

  • The $11 million building is scheduled to be complete by spring 2014.
