The Moorestown Library will be hosting its  May 21 for all ages, from tiny tots to curious adults.

Hosted by the Moorestown Friends Robotics Team, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., during the library's normal Saturday hours.

This is the first event of its kind for the public library. first approached local librarian, Jen Dunne, with the idea.

"We wanted to do a lot more for the community," said Emily Whitley, one of the founders of the girls’ robotics team. "We hope that the kids will bring it to their schools and create interest.”

Whitley got a firsthand look at how robotics expositions can stir interest.

During her sophomore year, she attended a robotic exposition at Science and Engineering Expo.

"The robotics team did it, so some girls and I created a girls’ robotics team," Whitley said. "It was cool, the thought that we were creating and building something.”

The boys' and girls' teams will demonstrate robotics with Lego and metal robots. The Lego robots will be available for the children to drive and perhaps some Legos will be available to create a new robot car. The metal robots will be at the library for demonstration, which, according to Whitley, will show participants what happens at the high school level.

Robot fans of all ages, especially families, are encouraged to come out to the event, according to Dunne. There will be stations that cater to the very young, adolescents and adults of the community.

The Lego fun doesn’t stop on May 21—the will have its own Lego League this summer in July and August, for those who are interested in further exploring the world of robotics.
