Summer Parks Program Kicks Off June 23

Summer Sports Camp runs in August and the Summer Theater Program runs June 25-July 29.

The Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer another summer filled with activities for people of every age.  The Summer Parks Program has been a staple of summer life in Moorestown for nearly half a century.

Every summer hundreds of children attend this long-standing day camp program and have an opportunity to play organized sports, play “camp games,” create art projects, dance and take field trips.  Summer of 2014 is no different!

The Summer Parks Program which runs from Monday June 23 through July 25 from 9-1 p.m. provides activities on a variety of levels where students interact with one another in a positive, relationship building environment.

This summer, youth will have a weekly art lesson led by long-standing Artist-In-Residence, Sophia Geiger.  Each summer Geiger leads children through projects that explore new levels of creativity and encourage children to find their artistic side.

Each week a field trip is offered to attendees (for an additional fee).  Included in this summers’ trips are a Camden River Sharks game, roller skating and bowling!

Another nearly half-century summer program, the Summer Theater Program is an annual summer stage event open to all who apply.  Campers are encouraged to find their “inner character” and participate in a complete theatrical experience from learning lines and singing and dancing to making costumes and building sets.

The Summer Theater Camp is a full theatrical experience which helps youth stretch and grow.  Summer Theater Program offers auditions June 23 and 24 and daily rehearsals starting June 25-July 29.  Show dates are July 30-August 2.

And for those youth who just love to play, play, play sports the Department of Parks & Recreation offers the Summer Sports Camp.  Summer Sports Camp is a fun-filled, week-long program that offers youth ages 5-7 and 8-12 the opportunity to learn and fine tune the fundamentals of recreational sports such as soccer, basketball, flag football and more!

The Summer Sports Camp is geared toward training the whole athlete – from good dietary habits to stretching and cool down techniques.  Summer Sports Camp runs August 18-22 (ages 5-7) and August 25-29 (ages 8-12).

The Department of Parks and Recreation really does have something for everyone.  For more information or to register for these and more summer programs, call 914-3093 or visit www.moorestownrec.com .
