Survey Seeks Input on Local Jewish Community

It's the first survey of the local Jewish population in two decades.

Submitted by the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey:

Do we need more kosher food options? Are people interested in a Jewish singles event? Should our synagogue start a pre-school? How many seniors live in our community and what are their needs?

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey and Family of Agencies seek to answer these and more questions with their "My Jewish Pop," a Jewish population needs assessment study of the South Jersey Jewish community.

Its purpose is to find out more about the Jewish population in the tri-county area—Burlington, Camden and Gloucester—and identify what needs have yet to be met and how the Federation can plan for future programs accordingly.

The survey asks the population who they are, where they live and what more they are looking for from the region's Jewish community. A similar study was conducted 22 years ago in 1991, and prior to that in 1965.

Another goal of "My Jewish Pop" is to share the survey results in order to afford community leaders the opportunity to take an educated approach toward serving the local population.

The Moorestown Jewish Association formed at the end of last year to bring together the town's sizable Jewish population, which the group pegs at roughly 1,900.

The information gathered through "My Jewish Popwill be analyzed and then presented to the community in late fall/early winter 2013. All personal information will remain confidential, and will not be relayed to any other organization.

The hope is that Jewish organizations will respond to the information by creating programs and services of higher value and appeal to the community as a whole.

To ensure an all-encompassing, accurate portrayal of the diverse population in the area, "My Jewish Pop" is encouraging every resident with a Jewish background who lives in the three counties to share their opinions.

Everyone who completes the survey may choose to enter a raffle to win a Samsung Tablet, one per county, or a grand prize of an iPad.

To take part in the survey, Jewish residents of all affiliations are asked to call-in to (855)-JPop-SNJ or go online to myjewishpopsurvey.org for the online version. The survey is open through the month of September.
