Celebrate Perkins Center

A beer tasting is planned to celebrate township's arts center.

Perkins Center for the Arts will put a twist on a traditional fundraiser when it holds a beer tasting during .

 “We wanted pre-prohibition-style brews,” said Lee Bennett, coordinator of projects and special events. Bennett said there would be 20 different kinds of beer to sample including brews from Yards Brewing Co. and Flying Fish.

The event, which will be held at 7 p.m. June 10 at the , will be set-up like a wine tasting, with sampling cups and hors d’oeuvres. Guests will learn about the rich history of the surrounding area breweries from beer historian Rich Wagner and have the opportunity to bid on handmade beer steins and other items by local artisans, as well as sporting event tickets and restaurant gift certificates.

The evening, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the building, will have a 1900s theme with a Dixieland band and ragtime piano player and décor from the era.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person. Proceeds from the event will support facility upgrades and renovations at the Moorestown location.

“Part of the proceeds will go toward renovations, the roof, basic maintenance,” said Bennett. “This is an old, worn building.”

Bennett said they are expecting about 200 people to the event, which cannot be held at Perkins because it is a public park.

“This is going to be a really fun event and unique experience for everyone that comes,” said Bennett. “It should be an evening to remember.”
