Gala Keeps MTC Going Strong in Second Decade

'The only thing we insist is that people have fun,' says Moorestown Theater Company's producing artistic director.

If you say you support community theater, it's time to put your money where your mouth is.

Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) will holds it fifth annual "Extrava-Gala" this Saturday at Laurel Creek Country Club, with an evening of dinner, dancing, cabaret and cocktails.

The event starts at 6 p.m. with an hour-long open bar, followed by the rest of the evening's festivities, which include performances of select songs from past and future MTC shows, like next month's Thoroughly Modern Millie and December's Willy Wonka Jr., as well as next year's Fiddler on the Roof—all emceed by MTC regular and 6ABC anchor Rick Williams.

"Since we are a theater company, we obviously feel like we should do theater," said producing artistic director Mark Morgan.

The event is black tie optional, but Morgan stressed many guests leave the tuxes and formal gowns at home in favor of suits and ties and cocktail dresses. Basically, just don't show up in sweatpants or jeans and you should be fine.

"The only thing we insist is that people have fun," said Morgan.

The money raised from the event allows MTC, which just started its second decade, to continue putting on performances each year. The gala raised approximately $35,000 in 2012.

There will also be silent and live auctions and a 50/50 raffle.

Tickets are $150 and can be purchased on the theater company website
