BurlCo Habitat for Humanity Moving to Maple Shade

Like so many of the homeowners it has helped over the last 26 years, Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County finds itself in need of a new home. 

The local chapter of the nonprofit—which has spent the last seven years at its facility on Taylors Lane in Cinnaminson—will pack its bags and head to Maple Shade next year, taking up residence in the old furniture building next to the Elite Acura on Route 38. 

Communications coordinator Caroline Malia said the move is primarily to give Habitat's ReStore, which underwent a major renovation earlier this year, more room to grow. ReStore is a retail operation that supports the organization's Affordable Homeownership Program by selling new and gently used household items and building materials to the public at steeply discounted prices.

Malia said ReStore manager Tristan Keyser returned from a conference earlier this year and stressed the need to find a bigger space for the ReStore.

"She was told that the store was not going to be able to grow in the capacity we wanted to grow without a move," said Malia.

Habitat subsequently approached Mitchell Davis—head of Davis Enterprises, a real estate company based in Marlton, and Habitat's 2013 Volunteer of the Year—for help finding a new headquarters. According to a release from Habitat, Davis has been instrumental in obtaining the new building, which he owns, as well as raising the approximately $2.5 million the organization needs to move.

"His values and our values kind of meshed," said Malia. "Without (Davis), it wouldn't have happened."

"The stability of a home helps people thrive; it helps communities grow and the local economy flourish," explained Davis. "Habitat for Humanity is a part of our community and my family and I believe it is important to support them as they grow into their new building."

Malia said the move to the Route 38 space will also provide greater visibility for the ReStore, which was somewhat "hidden" at its location off Route 130.

The organization plans to move next spring.

The ReStore (1702 Taylors Lane, Cinnaminson) is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The store also provides free pickups for donations.
