Distrito Mexican Restaurant Opens in Moorestown Mall July 8

The Mexican restaurant is the collaboration between Chef Jose Garces and Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT).

A new eatery is bringing the tastes of Mexico City to the Moorestown Mall.

Distrito opens in the Moorestown Mall July 8. Distrito is a collaboration between Chef Jose Garces and Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT).

The celebrated chef shares his love for the culture and cuisine of Mexico’s capital city, known by locals as “Distrito Federal,” with a menu representing the regional cuisines of Mexico. This includes street food inspired favorites, crowd-pleasing platos and hand-crafted cocktails.

The 200-seat restaurant includes an outdoor dining area and a large bar in the front of the restaurant with a back lined with wrestling masks.

Locals and shoppers can enjoy shareable starters such as fresh-made Guacamole with cotija cheese, topped with a choice of crab or lobster, or tuck into tamales with pork belly, charred tomatillo and queso fresco. From tacos and enchiladas to traditional masa flatbreads called huaraches and larger entrees known as Platos Fuertes, Distrito offers a diverse selection of authentic flavors

Brunch options include Torrijas, tres leches French toast with fresh berries and Chantilly cream, and a Short Rib Skillet with braised short rib and potato hash, roasted poblano, caramelized onion and a poached egg.

Distrito’s beverage program includes signature margaritas, Latin cocktails, sangría, beer and wine, in addition to the previously dry town’s first tequila bar.

Tequila and mescal options include El Jefe margarita made with Herradura barrel-aged reposado, Cointreau and fresh lime juice. Brunch cocktails include La Maria Roja, a chile infused Bloody Mary made with El Jimador Reposado, fresh horseradish and lime. To sip and sample drinks and well-priced bites, happy hour is hosted from 4 pm – 7 pm, Monday through Friday.
