Moorestown Friendly's Closes Doors

The Main Street location, one of two Friendly's restaurants in Moorestown, closed forever Monday.

After nearly 40 years on Main Street, closed permanently Monday.

As one of two Friendly's restaurants in Moorestown—the other is in the East Gate Square shopping center—the Main Street location opened in Sept. 1972, according to Friendly's spokesperson Lynn Bolton.

The restaurant on Main Street was a franchise, Bolton said, meaning Friendly's no longer owned it. She said the restaurant was bought by a company named JP Moorestown, LLC in June 2011.

"The restaurant was underperforming," she explained, "so the franchisee decided to close it."

Friendly's closed 63 of its 400-plus restaurants when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.

Bolton said the closure of the Main Street Moorestown location—which is permanent, according to paperwork Bolton referenced—is not related to the Friendly's closings in October.

"(The Main Street restaurant) just happened to close during our restructuring period," she said.
