County Honors Fallen at Wreaths Across America Ceremony

More than 500 wreaths were donated by private sponsors to decorate the gravestones of veterans at Beverly National Cemetery.

Burlington County Freeholder Deputy Director Joseph B. Donnelly gave a solemn address Saturday to a crowd of several hundred who gathered at Beverly National Cemetery in Edgewater Park for the annual Wreaths Across America remembrance ceremony.

Donnelly asked for a moment of silence to remember those who died Friday in the Newtown, CT shooting before thanking those in attendance for taking the time to honor those buried American veterans whose families and friends are no longer able to decorate their graves during the Christmas season.

“Today, we are that family member, for we all belong to the same family whose first name is ‘proud’ and whose last name is ‘American,’’’ Donnelly said.

The Beverly ceremony was one of more than 800 held simultaneously around the world on Saturday. More than 500 wreaths donated by private sponsors were placed on gravestones at Beverly National Cemetery immediately after the ceremony by those in attendance.
