County Hosting Multicultural Health Fair Saturday

The event, at the Kennedy Center in Willingboro, offers a wealth of information and activities for kids and adults.

Burlington County’s seventh annual Minority and Multicultural Physical & Fiscal Health Fair, “Faith in Wellness,” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Kennedy Center on JFK Way in Willingboro.

The free event will be held in the cafeteria and is open to everyone. New this year is a Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

In addition to the health fair, at 10 a.m. the American Heart/American Stroke Association will provide an ambassador training workshop and free lunch to those that attend.

At 2 p.m., Timothy Witcher, a culinary arts chef at Burlington County Institute of Technology, will provide a cooking demonstration. Other activities include:

  • "Let’s Move" kids' activities from 1 to 2:30 p.m. provided by the Willingboro Recreation & Parks Department
  • Faith in Action Ministries performing at 1 p.m.
  • Wise Ways to Conserve Your Money in Today’s Economy, 1-1:45 p.m.
  • Cyber bullying and children’s related issues from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Diabetes, asthma and links to dental health from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Willingboro Fantasia Stars to perform

“We want to encourage families to help each other live a healthy lifestyle,’’ said Burlington County Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien. “The festival shows residents fun ways they can improve their health habits and also the services available in the county.”

During the health fair, the will provide blood pressure screenings. Southern Jersey Family Medical Center Mobile Medic Van will provide additional screenings.

“September is Minority and Multicultural Health Month in New Jersey and the purpose of the festival is to raise awareness about the health status of minorities,” said county health officer Robert Gogats.

Faith in Wellness is sponsored by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Burlington County Health Department, Willingboro Township, Willingboro Recreation & Parks Department, Willingboro Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., The Links, Inc.—Rancocas Valley Chapter, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
