Five Things You Need to Know

Veterans are needed for July 4 parade; kids can take swim lessons.

1. Moorestown military veterans are invited to participate in the Moorestown Independence Day Parade on July 4. The parade will step off at noon.

Veterans who served during wartime or peace are invited.

Assembly will be at the intersection of Central and Chester avenues. Veterans are asked to arrive early to receive a place in the lineup. Veterans are also asked to wear something signifying veteran status.

2. will host an Information Meeting for its Summer Stage ’11 at 2 p.m. May 22 at , 235 W. Main St. in Moorestown. (Please use the rear entrance of the building.) The meeting is for parents and their children who are registered for, or who are thinking about registering for, any of the three sessions of Summer Stage ’11. MTC’s Summer Stage ‘11 is for children between the ages of 6 and 17 who love to act, dance and sing. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for an additional fee. The camp will be held at Hope Community Church. In all three sessions, which are each three weeks long, the children will have morning classes in drama, improv, music, and on alternating days, jazz and tap dancing. Local college students who are all majoring in performing arts and/or education will teach these classes. After lunch (which the children will bring from home), they will spend the afternoon rehearsing for that session’s age-appropriate musical. 3. The children of First Light Early Learning Center will hold a Bike-A-Thon to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 25 at the . The kids, aged 2 ½ through 6, will ride laps on the bike course to help raise awareness about the disease and to raise money for research to help their schoolmate, Charlie Delaney. Along with the Bike-A-Thon, the First Light families will be holding a bake sale and they invite the community to come out and help cheer on the children and support the fight against juvenile diabetes.

4. The is sponsoring Learn to Swim Clinics. There are two sessions: June 4 through July 9 and July 16 through Aug. 13. The clinics will be held on Saturdays at the Classes are for children ages 6 and older. Class size is limited. Times are as follows: non-swimmers 9 a.m.; novice swimmers 10 a.m.; intermediate swimmers 11 a.m. Cost of the five-week course is $40. 5. will sponsor an Adult Home Safety Night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. June 2 at the Fire House, 261 W. Main St. The evening is designed to educate adults about fire safety and will include sessions on electrical safety, alarm systems, home escape plans, fire extinguishers, fire prevention, township fire codes, kitchen and holiday safety and the fire department.
