Five Things You Need to Know

July 4th Parade needs donations; fun times at the library.

Fourth of July: The has received $2,500 in donations for this year’s parade. The parade will have a 1776 theme, as will the fundraising to run the parade.

There are three levels of giving:

  • Red $17.76
  • White $177.60
  • Blue $1776.00

The parade will step off at noon July 4, heading south on Chester Avenue to Main Street and then West on Main Street, ending at the corner of Church and Main streets. The parade is sponsored by the Moorestown Business Association.

Donations can be sent to the MBA, P.O. Box 358, Moorestown, NJ 08057, with Fourth of July Parade as the notation.

Winter Reading Winner: Second-grader Hannah Wilson and the brand new bunny she just made at Build-A-Bear. Hannah won a $25 gift certificate to
Build-A-Bear in the 's Winter Reading Game, and recently stopped by to show off her creation.

 

Stuffed Animal Sleepover: On April 8, the Moorestown Library held its first Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Thirty children attended with a favorite stuffed friend
and enjoyed stories, a craft and a bedtime snack before leaving their
stuffed animals behind to spend the night at the library. From there, a
group of five teen volunteers took over, posing the animals in fun
activities around the library. The stuffed animals enjoyed eating pizza and
cookies, playing on the train table and reading their favorite bedtime
stories before turning in for the night.

Letters about Literature: Students in Margaret Valora’s Language Arts Classes at the participated in the national Letters about Literature Competition. Students write letters to authors of their choosing explaining why their particular novels were important to them. Emma Burns, an eighth-grade student, earned first place honors for the State of New Jersey. Olivia Sauoaf and Lauren Birsner were honorable mentions. All three students, and their teacher, will be recognized at Princeton University in May. Emma’s letter has been entered into the national competition.

 

Movie Music: About 30 students from Alice Herman’s Studio for Strings recently performed Fiddle Flix at Borders Books and Music in Mt. Laurel. Students performed individually and in groups and the audience matched up the performers with song titles and movies named on the program. Popcorn and chocolates were the rewards for correct answers. The performers ranged in age from 5 to adult. Songs included an eclectic mix of classic movie music from The Graduate, Sound of Music, Disney Favorites, theater music, classical music and even the theme from Sponge Bob.
