Moorestown Rec Department Hosts Bowling Outing for Special Needs Families

The monthly outings serve as a support system for special needs kids and their families, says one organizer.

About 50 special needs children and members of their family got together at Pinsetter bowling alley in Pennsauken this weekend for the Special Needs Activity Committee's monthly outing.

Committee member Darlene Altschuler said the outings are for "family support," to have a place where families who are caregivers for special needs children can come together "so they're in a comfortable environment. We're going to support you. You're not going to get looks, you're not going to be asked to leave."

Altschuler said the committee has hosted outings at various venues, including a Camden Riversharks game and a holiday party. The events are usually well-attended, she said, and the bowling outing Sunday was no exception.
