Moorestown Veterans to be Honored Friday

The American Legion will hold its annual ceremony at Memorial Field.

Local veterans will be honored during a brief ceremony held by the Friday morning at .

Gene Clark, commander of Post 42, will begin the ceremony at 11 a.m. in front of the veterans memorial with a brief speech, after which he will read off the names of all the deceased local veterans whose names are engraved on the monument.

Clark said there are roughly 30 names on the memorial, going all the way back to World War I.

"It's to recognize the veterans who gave their time and service," he said. "Just to pause for that time."

Clark said the most recent name to be added to the monument is that of Maj. John P. Pryor, a trauma surgeon at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania who was killed in Iraq on Christmas Day 2008.

Salem Road Park, now , was rededicated in Pryor's honor in 2010. 

Friday's Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Field will last about 15 to 20 minutes, Clark said.
