Parks and Rec Has Jam-Packed Autumn Planned

Moorestown residents and non-residents alike have a myriad of options, from dance to sports to tumbling, to choose from this fall.

Starting to plan your fall activities? Moorestown’s has a full line up of activities for all age groups through the fall.

Some activities have registration deadlines coming up or have a maximum number of participants.

TEEN NIGHTS

The Church Street Recreation Center is open for students in grades 7-12 on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7to 9:45 p.m. All gymnasium and game room facilities, including open pingpong play, are available for use. There are also special activities such as coffee houses and all-night dodge ball, and events including student talent scheduled in connection with C.A.S.A. and the Moorestown Youth Initiative.

 

IRISH STEP DANCING (Children and Adults)

Conducted in several eight-week sessions on the third floor of the Church Street Recreation Center, the first session will begin on Monday, Sept. 12 for advanced beginner, novice, adult and advanced level dancers. The beginner class will begin on Monday, Sept. 19. Classes for beginners will be held from 4:15 to 5 p.m., advanced beginner from 5 to 6 p.m., novice and adults from 6 to 7 p.m., and advanced from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost for the eight-week series is $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents (checks made payable to the Township of Moorestown).

 

TUMBLIN’ TOTS

Featuring a new 10-week curriculum. The program of basic exercise using games, music, and gymnastics for ages 18 months through 4, emphasizes building confidence and socialization by combining practical exercises with a low-key atmosphere, helping to improve movement, agility, motor skills and coordination. Mommy and Me classes are for ages 18 months through 2 ½. The program is held in the gymnasium at the Church Street Recreation Center on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for age 18 months to 2 ½, and 10:30 a.m. for ages 2 ½ through 4. The fee for the 10-week program is $80 for residents and $90 for non-residents. The program run begins Sept. 22 through Dec. 1 with no classes on Nov. 24.

 

GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY CLINIC

For Moorestown girls in grades 3 through 6. The clinic is held on Wednesday afternoons from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. for third and fourth grades; 4:30 to 6 p.m. for fifth and sixth grades beginning on Sept. 14. Instruction will take place at the Wesley Bishop Park Turf Field. The program stresses the fundamentals and basic skills of field hockey in a low-key instructional atmosphere. The cost for the eight-week program is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents. Registration deadline: Aug. 19.

 

GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY LEAGUES

For Moorestown girls in grades K through 6. League games are played on Sunday afternoons beginning Sept. 18 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for all grades. Games will be held at the Wesley Bishop Park Athletic Fields. The cost for the League is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents. Registration deadline: Aug. 19.

 

GIRLS’ LIMITED TRAVEL FIELD HOCKEY LEAGUES

Girls’ Limited Travel teams for grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8. Home games played at Wesley Bishop Park, with practices on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Away games played in area towns. Fee: Fifth and Sixth Grade Limited Travel (includes Wednesday Clinic) $110. Non-Resident attending school in Moorestown, $120. Seventh and Eighth Grade Limited Travel $60. Non-Resident attending school in Moorestown, $70. 

 

YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUES

Soccer Leagues for boys and girls in grades K through 2 will begin with games on Saturday, Sept. 17. All games played on Saturday mornings through mid-November. Kindergarten games will be held on six Saturday mornings at either 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. There are no weekday time periods involved in the Kindergarten League, but leagues for children in grades 1 and 2 may involve weekday evening practices that will be scheduled by the team coaches. Again this year, the Moorestown Flag Football League has coordinated its schedule to allow children to be able to take part in both programs. The cost for the program is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents, while registration numbers permit. Registration deadline: Aug. 19.

 

LIMITED TRAVEL—“FRIENDSHIP” SOCCER LEAGUES

Boys’ and Girls’ Leagues for U-10, U-12 and U-14. Games played in area towns from Collingswood to Florence on Saturdays. The cost for all Limited Travel Leagues is $45. Coaches will contact players with practice time and game schedule, which will run from Sept. 20-Nov. 12.

 

TENNIS LESSONS

Begins with Session I the week of Monday, Sept. 12. Lessons are conducted on weekday afternoons and early evenings and on Saturdays for children, as well as weekday mornings and evenings for adults. The cost for five weeks (one-hour lesson) is $55 for Moorestown residents, and $65 for non-residents. Fall Session II begins the week of Oct. 17.

 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

An informal pick-up basketball program will be available to Moorestown women ages 19 and older on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center. All equipment will be provided. The program begins with Session I on Monday, Sept. 19. Session II begins on Nov. 16. Proof of residency is required, and the registration fee is $10 per resident player.

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL

For men ages 19 and older, is held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center Gymnasium. The summer session continues through Aug. 17, with Fall Session I being held from Sept. 7 through Oct. 26. The fee per session is $10 per resident and $20 per non-resident. Pre-registration is necessary. Registrations will not be accepted at the Recreation Center.

 

ADULT CO-ED SOCCER

An informal soccer program, mainly for men and women not playing in another outdoor league, is held at the Wesley Bishop Turf Field, 1238 North Church St., on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Fall Session I is Sept. 13 through Nov. 8. The fee is $25per session—Residents only. Pre-registration is required, as well as proof of residency. Rubber cleats and shin guards are required along a white and dark shirt each week for team-forming purposes.

 

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Arts and crafts will be held at the New Albany Road Recreation Center on Saturday afternoons from noon to 1 p.m. The program will be conducted in two five-week sessions. Session I runs Sept. 24-Oct. 29, and Session II from Nov. 5-Dec. 17, with no program on Nov. 26. Creativity will be stressed using several different mediums and emphasizing a particular theme each week. The cost for each session is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
