Teen Plows Through Memorial Field Wall

Moorestown Police say the driver was OK, but he might have to wait a little longer to get his license.

A 17-year-old driving with a provisional license smashed into the wall at Memorial Field along South Church Street Monday night, according to police.

Moorestown Police said the teen was making a right turn into the field just after 8 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his car and plowed through the wall, chopping off "-ial Field."

No one was injured in the accident. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving.

Lt. Lee Lieber said officers collected the scattered letters, along with other pieces of the wall, so they could be used in rebuilding it. Some debris from the accident remained scattered across the lawn as of Tuesday afternoon.

Township manager Scott Carew said the township had already begun preparing the paperwork to submit an insurance claim.

"We have every intention of restoring (the wall) to what it was," he said.

Carew could not say whether the wall would be rebuilt in time for the township's Memorial Day ceremony on May 27.

"We will make every effort to get that done in time," he said.

Thankfully no one was hurt. And sure happy no one vandalized it and it was an accident.

Wasn't there plaques or other memorabilia on the inside part of that wall? We're they damaged? If so are they going to be replaced?

TC Historian, Lt. Lieber said the plaque/s and other important parts of the wall were collected by police. He didn't say anything about them being damaged, so my guess is they're fine and will be used when the wall is rebuilt.

Whoa! That was a close one. For a minute, I thought someone tried to run down the new assembly candidate!

Uh oh, queue up another fundraiser! Vegas early line has over/under at 8 months to have wall rebuilt.

Really???? WOW! How desperate and scared are you , of these candidates ,that you would take a cheap shop like that. You took a totally unrelated and potentially dangerous incident and brought politics into it. Pathetic! Outbursts like this are further evidence of the strength of these candidates.

It is called an accident and not an on purpose... good thing the kid is all right.
M'town Truth April 03, 2013 at 02:02 PM
Poor kid. It's scary enough learning how to drive - this will probably convince him to wait a while longer!
Our Town April 03, 2013 at 02:32 PM
Thank god the kid hit the sign and didn't take his sever lack of basic driving skills into the parking lot where any number of kids can be milling about at any time.
