Teen Plows Through Memorial Field Wall

Moorestown Police say the driver was OK, but he might have to wait a little longer to get his license.

A 17-year-old driving with a provisional license smashed into the wall at Memorial Field along South Church Street Monday night, according to police.

Moorestown Police said the teen was making a right turn into the field just after 8 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his car and plowed through the wall, chopping off "-ial Field."

No one was injured in the accident. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving.

Lt. Lee Lieber said officers collected the scattered letters, along with other pieces of the wall, so they could be used in rebuilding it. Some debris from the accident remained scattered across the lawn as of Tuesday afternoon.

Township manager Scott Carew said the township had already begun preparing the paperwork to submit an insurance claim.

"We have every intention of restoring (the wall) to what it was," he said.

Carew could not say whether the wall would be rebuilt in time for the township's Memorial Day ceremony on May 27.

"We will make every effort to get that done in time," he said.
