Tornado Watch Issued for Area

The National Weather Service alert remains in effect through 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Burlington County and several other New Jersey counties through 8 p.m. tonight.

The alert was issued at around 1 p.m.

In addition to Burlington County, the following New Jersey counties are part of the watch: Bergen,Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, tornado danger signs are:

  • A dark, often greenish sky
  • Large hail
  • A large, low-lying, dark cloud
  • Loud roar, similar to that of a freight train

If a tornado does hit our area, go directly to your home's basement. If your house does not have a basement, go to the middle of a room on the lowest level, staying as far away as possible from windows, corners, doors and outside walls.

The low tonight will be around 63 with a west wind between 7 and 11 mph.
