Wondering What to Do with the Kids This Winter?

Mark your calendars now for a fun-filled December at the Moorestown Library.

Snow has already settled on Moorestown, so it seems fitting to start thinking about how to entertain the kids during those first cold weeks of winter. The Moorestown Library has a full calendar of events throughout the month of December.

South Jersey Boys Read will return on Saturday, Dec. 8, with two exciting programs. At 10 a.m., boys in grades 2 and 3 can enjoy a fun-filled morning with The Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup. At 11 a.m., 4th and 5th grade boys are invited on an exciting adventure with The Chronicle of Egg, Book 1: Deadweather and Sunrise by Geoff Rodkey. Registration is required for both events.

Papageno, our friendly and adorable therapy dog, will visit us from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, and Thursday, Dec. 13, to give children a chance to participate in our popular Read to the Dog program. This is an excellent opportunity for children in grades 1+ to practice their read-aloud skills with a supportive, non-judgmental audience. Papageno is the star of the new book Puppies on Wheels by Gabrielle Korkor. Children may register for one 15-minute appointment.

December is full of holiday fun at the library, and we’ve got special events for kids from kindergarten through high school. At 4:15 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19, children in grades K-1 can enjoy gingerbread stories and decorate gingerbread cookies in our Gingerbread Fun program. Second graders are invited to make a personalized stocking for the holidays at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12, while third graders can make a holiday gift for mom and dad, complete with gift wrap, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, also at 4:15. And fifth graders can sign up to make a tree skirt that’s sure to become a treasured holiday keepsake at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. All of these programs have limited space and require advance registration.

Our popular Crafternoons series for kids in grades 4+ is getting into the spirit of the season with two festive programs. Join us for a cake decorating contest to see who can make the most original creation with a winter theme at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Then come back Thursday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m. to build and decorate your own gingerbread house. Both of these events have limited space and require advance registration.

No time to register? No problem! The library has lots of fun drop-in programs for children of all ages. Come by Saturday, Dec. 1, between 9:30-10:30 a.m. to build an original Lego creation with a winter theme. Your masterpiece will be displayed in the lobby of the library throughout the month of December. Children of all ages are also invited to stop in to the Children’s Room anytime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 22 to make a wintery decoration that will hang in the library all winter long.

Looking for some family fun to fill that long winter break? Drop in anytime between Dec. 24 and 31 to make a custom calendar for the new year. We’ll also have our extensive collection of Legos and board games out for all to enjoy on Thursday, Dec. 27.

Registration for December events begins Monday, Nov. 13. Call the Children’s Department at 856-234-0333, ext. 5 to register.
