Booker Carries Burlington in Low-Turnout Election

Just under 25 percent of Burlington County registered voters cast ballots in Wednesday's special Senate election.

Nearly 25 percent of registered Burlington County voters cast a ballot in Wednesday's special Senate election, carrying Cory Booker to victory over Steve Lonegan.

Booker won Burlington County with 54.8 percent of the vote to Lonegan's 43.99. Of the county's 289,538 registered voters, 71,828 went to the polls Wednesday—not great, but significantly higher than the 26,592 (or 9.24 percent) who voted in the August primary, according to county records.

A municipal breakdown of election results was not immediately available Thursday.

Board of elections administrator Pat Benetti said there were seemingly no problems at the polls Wednesday.

"Everything went smoothly," she said.
