OFA South Jersey Sends Rep. Jon Runyan Back to Work

As part of Organizing for Action New Jersey's Bus for Progress Tour OFA South Jersey volunteers and supporters visited Rep. Jon Runyan's Mt. Laurel office on Friday, 9/6/13. They were there to let him know where they stand on the issues, to deliver petitions in favor of comprehensive immigration reform and climate change reform, and to deliver a simple message - “As you go back to Washington on September 9th, this session we want a vote on immigration reform, work done on climate change reform, a bill passed for expanded background checks to help prevent gun violence, and a good bargain for the middle class without disturbing the full faith and credit of the United States.”

That same message was also given to Rep. Frank LoBiondo, Rep. Chris Smith, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, and Rep. Leonard Lance when the bus visited each of their offices on Friday.

OFA volunteers nationwide spent the August congressional recess organizing their communities around the issues the American people voted for in 2012, like immigration reform, affordable healthcare, combating climate change, gun violence prevention and a better bargain for the middle class, among others. OFA’s “Action August” volunteers made it clear to their representatives in Washington that their expectation is to put the American people before D.C. politics.

This event was part of a state-wide bus tour organized by OFA-NJ volunteers to underscore the importance to New Jersey of these issues. The bus included activists for each of the issues being worked on by OFA who spoke to the group as each stop.

Eric Kipnis and Meryl Greene, OFA South Jersey Chapter Leaders made it clear that the group’s work has not ended with August – “There’s much more to do going forward”, they said.
