'Nice, Solemn Ceremony' to Mark Memorial Day

Moorestonians will once again turn out in droves to pay tribute to soldiers who died in military service.

Moorestown will once again honor its fallen servicemen and -women during its annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.

The tribute kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday at and will feature performances from the Band and the choir, among others, said Mike Bartello, who’s planned this year’s program for the .

He said the introduction will be given by Gold Star mother Judy Young, whose 22-year-old son, Jeffrey Young, was killed on Oct. 23, 1983, while serving in Beirut as a Marine Corps sergeant, and for whom is named.

Councilwoman Stacey Jordan will also speak, followed by guest speaker Charles Juliana, brother of Peter Juliana, a Moorestown native killed in World War II.

Bartello said during the ceremony the names of every deceased Moorestown veteran will be read aloud and a flower for each name placed on the monument by the Girl Scouts.

“It’s a very nice, solemn ceremony,” said Bartello.

The will also make a gun 21-gun salute and perform “Taps” during Moorestown’s 26th annual Memorial Day observance, he said.
