Head Out to a Local Farmer's Market

Now is the time of year when there are farmers’ markets all over South Jersey.  The harvest is in.  There are tons of fresh, wholesome foods available everywhere.  There is nothing better than a trip to a local farmers’ market to help you live a healthy lifestyle.  You can live green and eat seasonally!!!  It's the best way to stay healthy, keep in touch with nature, and support local entrepreneurial farmers and food providers, while meeting your friends and neighbors.

The great thing about a farmers’ market is that you get the food as soon as it is harvested.  This makes for great freshness, flavor and nutrition.  The fresh produce is superior to a grocery store and the atmosphere is great.  This successful weekly market is an important link in the local food chain.  It provides a location for selling directly to the consumer and it strengthens the business of farming for small family-owned farms that are characteristic of our region.

One local farmers’ market is Haddonfield Farmers’ Market.  There are plenty of events still going on at this market:

October 12: Chili Cook-Off -Enter Your Recipe
October 5: It's Pumpkin Time
October 19: Haddonfield Fall Festival
October 26: Closing Day

For more information, check out their website:  www.haddonfieldfarmersmarket.org

The other local farmers’ market is Collingswood Farmers’ Market.  This market started in 2000.  Now in its second decade, the Collingswood Farmers’ Market has become an established part of the social fabric of the community. People come to walk, meet their neighbors, and socialize while they shop for their weekly produce and more.  It's not just farms—local vendors and activities help make this market a vibrant and fun destination every Saturday, May through Thanksgiving.
