Former Moorestown Citizen of the Year Carroll Boyd “CB” Shingleton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, at the age of 84.
CB was born on Nov. 10, 1928, in Uniontown, PA. After working for his family’s company—Shingleton Brother’s Produce—he joined the Army’s 1st Calvary Division in 1947. Upon leaving the Army, he enrolled in West Virginia University, where he graduated early with honors.
While raising a young family, CB took a leap of faith and moved to Moorestown, not knowing a soul, in August 1965. CB diligently worked his way up to become the last president of Burlington County Trust Company, where he served for a decade. CB also participated in many community organizations, including being secretary, president and capital fund chairman of the Family YMCA of Burlington County, president of the Leukemia Society Southern NJ Chapter, chairman of the Memorial Hospital Foundation, member of the board of directors for House of Kids, and was named Moorestown Citizen of the Year in 1991. CB also played an integral role in Rowan University becoming what it is today. He retired in 1993, and devoted himself selflessly to his grandkids and family.
CB is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Shingleton (nee Mitchell). He is the father of Paula Gimello (nee Shingleton), Mary Louise Shingleton, and his late son, “Cap.” He is survived by his grandchildren, Chris and Nick Gimello, and was grandfather to the late Mike Gimello, Kristen Alzamora and Paul Alzamora. He is also survived by great grandchildren Olivia, Madison and Natalia Gimello.
A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main St., Moorestown. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Moorestown. Interment will be held in Eldridge Cemetery, Mount Laurel.
