Loving Mother, Proficient Golfer Dies

Violette "Vi" Wetherill, of Moorestown, was 80 when she died last week following a prolonged battle with emphysema.

After a prolonged illness with emphysema, Violette “Vi” Wetherill, of Moorestown, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, at the age of 80. She was comforted during this period by her loving family: her husband of 60 years, Don; her children, Kathy Mahony and her husband Dennis; Judi Welch and her husband Marty; and Doug Wetherill and his wife Carol Rovello.  

In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren Sean and Caitlin Mahony, Brad and Mike Welch and Patrick and Eric Wetherill, plus great-grandchildren Tyler and Josh Welch. Violette is also survived by her brothers Allen Rosset and David Rosset and her sister Lillian Schmitt.

As a young woman, Violette was interested in sewing and making outfits for her daughters. She also made outfits for herself, one of which won first place in a countywide contest. Later in life, this passion turned to counted cross-stitch and petit point, an art she had learned from her mother.

After the children went off to college, Violette and her husband took up golf. She again became quite proficient and became a member of the women’s golf team at Riverton Country Club. She particularly enjoyed playing the various golf courses in the greater Philadelphia area. She also liked to travel and her favorite vacation was 10 days touring Switzerland, the country where her father had grown up.

Violette was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, as well as being a loving wife and soulmate to her husband.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church at the intersection of Riverton and Bridgeboro roads in Moorestown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church (101 Bridgeboro Road), where Violette worshipped for more than 45 years. Condolences may be left at www.lewisfuneralhomemoorestown.com.
