Moorestown Friends Alum, Community Volunteer Dies

W. Edward Borton, a longtime Moorestonian, died at 94 years old earlier this week.

W. Edward Borton, of Moorestown, passed away on Nov. 19 at the age of 94.

Born in Moorestown and a lifelong resident, Ed most recently lived in Cadbury at Cherry Hill. He was a graduate of Moorestown Friends School and Earlham College in Richmond, IN. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps, and worked at RCA for 42 years.

Ed was very involved in the community, serving on the board of the Historical Society of Moorestown, the Community House, a member of the Y’s Men’s Club, a member of the Shade Tree Commission and a treasurer of the Burlington County Girl Scout Council. A birthright Quaker, he later became a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church.   

Ed was the loving husband of May Borton (nee Ulmer) for 56 years, and the father of Richard (Kathy), Moorestown; William (Beverly), Medford; and Elizabeth Mallon (Jay), Blue Bell, PA. He was also the grandfather of Christine and John Borton and many nephews and nieces.  

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be private.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions made in Ed’s name to Moorestown Friends School, 110 E. Main St., Moorestown, NJ 08057, or the Hospice of Moorestown VNA, 300 Harper Drive, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
