Obituary: James F. Brickley Jr.

The longtime volunteer firefighter passed away this week at the age of 88, according to Lewis Funeral Home.

James F. Brickley Jr., 88, of Merchantville, died Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Brickley was a longtime resident of Merchantville and member of the Niagara Fire Company for more than 70 years, serving as chief for 35. He was also a member of the Merchantville Relief Association and a life member of the New Jersey Firemen's Relief Association.

Brickley served in the Air Force during WWII.

Along with his brother, Brickley worked as a plumber with James F. Brickley & Sons of Merchantville.    

He was the husband of the late Dorothy Brickley (nee Fisher), father of James F. (Donna) Brickley III, Deb Scharr, Elizabeth (Brice) Sachs, and Joseph Brickley. He was also the brother of Joseph Brickley and grandfather of Tara Kuser, Matthew Brickley, Lauren Klemowicz, Amy Scharr, Brittany Sachs, Brice Sachs, Robert Sachs, Sydney Brickley and Tabitha Brickley; and the great grandfather of Danica Brickley, Cole Brickley Maeve Kuser, and baby girl Klemowicz.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, 43 W. Maple Ave., Merchantville.

Viewings will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, and 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at , 78 E. Main St., Moorestown.

Entombment will take place at the Calvary Mausoleum in Cherry Hill.

In lieu of flowers, send memorial contributions to Niagara Fire Company, 22 E. Park Ave., Merchantville, NJ 08109. Mass cards would also be appreciated.
