Obituary: Leon M. Baumer

Leon N. Baumer, of Moorestown, died on Feb. 11, 2014 at the age of 93 of He is formerly ofSylvania, OH.  Leon was born in Kendall, NY.

During WWII he served as a navigator in the US 8th Air force, 491st Heavy Bombardment Unit. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "courage, coolness and exceptional skill."

After the war he attended Alfred University in NY where he majored in ceramic engineering. He worked as a ceramic engineer at both Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, PA, and Owens Illinois in Perrysburg, Ohio in their industrial research and development groups, retiring in 1985. 

Leon was husband of the late Jean  (nee Mahaffey), and  is survived by his daughter  Carol (Frank) Manion, of Moorestown, and his grandchildren Ryan F. and Erica  M. Manion.

Memorial service is Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Palmyra  Moravian Church, 1921 Cinnaminson Ave., Cinnaminson, NJ. Interment is at East Union Cemetery, Cheswick, Pa.
