Obituary: 'Selfless' Volunteer, Teacher Dies

Ruth A. (Banchi) Moccia, a longtime Moorestown resident, was 73 when she passed away last month.

Ruth A. (Banchi) Moccia, 73, born June 5, 1938, passed away peacefully on April 2.

Ruth followed her beloved husband Aquilante (Quin), of 51 years, who passed away in 2007.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ruth and Quin moved to Moorestown in 1964, where Quin set up his dental practice.

Ruth was a 1960 graduate of Temple University (where she met the love of her life) and earned her master's in education from Rowan University in 1978.
English teacher extraordinaire, Ruth ended her long career at Holy Cross High School, retiring in 2003.

Over the years, Ruth was very active in the Moorestown/suburban Philadelphia community. Her kind heart and selfless nature were evident from her many volunteer endeavors. In her work, she was not only a teacher, but a counselor, confidante, and friend to many young people over her 40-plus years devoted to teaching.

Ruth leaves behind three daughters: Mary Ellen (Erick) Diaz (of Satellite Beach, FL); and Ruth Anne (Eric) Pluckhorn, and Carol Lee (David) Tang, both of Moorestown. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren—her pride and joy.

Ruth was also an avid bridge player—in her home and various Moorestown women's clubs—a fabulous cook who loved to entertain, and an expert on Shakespeare. Her warm smile, loving eyes and kind heart will be missed by all.
