WWII Vet, Former Moorestonian Dies

Carl Weber Slemmer was 90 when he passed away earlier this week. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church.

Carl Weber Slemmer Jr., Esq., 90, formerly of Moorestown, died peacefully on June 9, in Medford Leas.  

A 1941 graduate of Merchantville High School, Carl served in World War II as a Naval officer on a minesweeper in the South Pacific, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

 He then earned his B.S. at Muhlenberg College in 1948, and earned his law degree (J.D.) at Temple University in 1963. A member of the bar in three states, his career focused on industrial relations/labor law. Carl worked for Allied Chemical, Exide and Columbia University, before retiring in 1989.

Carl was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Y’s Men’s Club, a service organization (12 years as secretary).

He was the husband of Renee Slemmer; father of Michael C. Slemmer, of Massachusetts; John B. Slemmer, of Georgia; and Sandra S. Batezel, of Moorestown. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown, from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11, with internment following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Salvation Army.
