Hartford Road is still closed following an accident involving a piece of construction equipment Monday morning.

According to the Burlington County Times, an excavator was being transported on a flatbed truck when it struck the underside of the New Jersey Turnpike overpass, damaging several iron beams.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. and Hartford Road remained closed between Marne Highway and Centerton Road Monday afternoon, Mount Laurel Police said.

The shoulders on both the north and southbound lanes also remain closed.

A spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority told the Times that engineers are assessing the overpass to determine the extent of the damage and whether it remains structurally sound.
