Alleged Marlton Stalker Arrested

Wade J. Smith had been under investigation for months, police said.

A Marlton man who did everything from slash tires to mail a threatening letter was arrested Monday for stalking a victim in Evesham Township, police said.

Wade J. Smith, 42, was driving drunk when officers caught up to him Monday night on Dorset Drive during the process of executing a search warrant at his home, police said.

Smith had been the subject of a three-month investigation, police said, following various incidents—besides the slashed tires and threatening letter, Smith also doused his victim’s car in pink paint in one incident and poured a liquid similar to paint thinner in another.

Officers who searched his home on the warrant found evidence connecting him to those incidents and supporting the stalking charge, police said.

Smith was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal mischief, as well as single counts each of third-degree stalking and driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the Burlington County Jail in default of $17,250 full cash bail.
