Ambulance Crash Sends 5 to Hospital, Police Say

The accident occurred when the ambulance went to pass another vehicle on Kings Highway Thursday night, police said.

A Moorestown ambulance crashed on the way to the hospital Thursday night when it tried to pass another vehicle, sending five people to the hospital, according to police.

The ambulance, with lights and siren on, was driving west on Kings Highway headed to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, with a patient inside, when it attempted to pass a vehicle in front of it at around 7:25 p.m., said Moorestown Police. Both vehicles then collided near Foxwood Drive.

The four people inside the ambulance, including the patient, were taken to Cooper, while the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly, police said. All five were treated and released.

The accident is still under investigation. 

Kings Highway between Haines Drive and Lenola Road was closed for a brief period Thursday night while the accident scene was cleared. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
