Emergency-Assistance Volunteers Honored

Twelve members of Moorestown's CERT squad were recognized for their volunteer efforts Tuesday.

Members of Moorestown CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) were honored for their volunteerism and assistance throughout 2011 during a special event Tuesday at Burlington County Institute of Technology.

Twelve members of Moorestown CERT were honored for their assistance “as a force multiplier, helping residents and freeing up first responders for more critical assignments” in Moorestown and throughout Burlington County and the rest of the state, according to a release from . The event was sponsored by Burlington County freeholders, PSEG and Atlantic Electric.

The CERT volunteers assisted with parades, fireworks at Moorestown Family Fun Day, a missing person search in Burlington Township, the county farm fair, and . Moorestown CERT members deployed to North Jersey as part of the county’s “Mud Team” to help remove debris and mud from homes flooded by Irene, the release said.

Moorestown Police Sgt. Lee Lieber, who also acts as the county’s emergency management coordinator, said the 34 members of the township’s CERT squad are a huge help.
