Fire District Elections Saturday

District No. 1 tax rate to stay flat; District No. 2 seeks an increase.

Moorestown’s fire districts will hold their annual elections Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m.

In Fire District No. 1, residents will be voting on a budget that does not have any increase. That means taxes on the average assessed home, valued at $537,400, will pay $257.95 in taxes, according to District Administrator Christopher Chesner.

This year’s budget will raise approximately $1.7 million through taxation.

Fire District No. 1 will also include a second question on its ballot, asking residents to allow the company to purchase a fire inspector vehicle and a command vehicle in 2012. The cost of the purchase will not exceed $60,000 in 2012. Fire districts are required to ask voters second questions one year prior to making capital expenditures.

Voters will also be electing two fire commissioners to three-year terms on the Board of Fire Commissioners. Incumbents R. Max Fisher and Stephen H. Bixby are running uncontested.
